Some Things You Need to Know About NBA 2K21

The NBA 2K21 release is just over two weeks away. But what should you know before its release? Let's take a look at some things you need to know.

NBA 2K21

Tribute To Kobe

Outside of Kobe Bryant likely being the face of the special editions of NBA 2K21, the game will likely feature additional tributes to the basketball legend. It's unclear what the tribute will be and how they'll pay respect to the Los Angeles Lakers great, but don't be surprised if he is a large focus in their development efforts.

The Top Rookies

Despite the NBA season coming to an abrupt end, the league's annual draft will still be taking place.

This means that the league will be ushering in a new class of potential superstars and NBA 2K21 will have a new roster filled with all of the young faces set to step on an NBA court for the first time. These top rookies will include the likes of James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, and more.

WNBA Returns

Last year the NBA 2K franchise took a large step forward when it comes to inclusion by featuring the WNBA in the game as a playable mode. Players could take control of their favorite WNBA teams and display the talent and ability of some of the world's best female basketball players.

It was a huge hit with people and it's likely that this returns in NBA 2K21. Though more explicit details are lacking, yet again, Visual Concepts has promised "exciting news" for WNBA fans with NBA 2K21.

New Dunks Have Been Mo-Capped

As well as the dunk animation package included within Zion Williamson's pre-order digital collection, it has been confirmed that a number of new dunks have been motion captured for NBA 2K21.

Once mastered, we could be seeing many players virtually joining the likes of Dwight Howard and Shaquille O'Neal in racking up the two points on offer from a slam dunk.

202
Songs on Next-Gen

NBA 2K21 Soundtrack

NBA 2K21 will have 52 songs with its current-gen release. However, it's the next-gen version that's much crazier with 202 songs at launch and even more songs being added over time.

Championship Rings

NBA 2K21 will see players competing for "Championship Rings" in-game.

The Next-Gen Version Is Built From Scratch

NBA 2K21 is being built from the ground up for next-gen and will feature new additions and improvements only possible on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Simply put, NBA 2K's team are crafting something entirely new for PS5 and Xbox Series X players to ensure they're getting their money's worth. They haven't yet stated what these 'new additions and improvements' could possibly be referring to, however, we've only seen just how outstanding the graphics look on next-gen consoles.

Cross-gen Progression

The good news is that regardless of which console version you buy, progression will carry over between generations. That includes MyTeam Points, Tokens, and Cards. Virtual Currency is also shared between the respective consoles, meaning Xbox One and PS4 players can access their currency on Xbox Series X and PS5 respectively.
