NBA 2K21 Latest News: Release Date, Price, PS5 State of Play, and More

NBA 2K21 is approaching fast, we are getting more and more new news. The latest news, Sony's next State of Play event has officially been announced for 6 August, and it could contain something big for NBA 2K21. For now, let's go over everything we know so far.

1. NBA 2K21 Reveal

Our first real look at NBA 2K21 came at the PS5 Reveal Event in the form of the NBA 2K21 Announcement Trailer.

It featured in-engine game footage of Zion Williamson and functioned as a cover reveal as well.

2. NBA 2K21 Release Date

NBA 2K21's release date will be Friday, 4 September.

3. Price

NBA 2K21 is the first game heading to next-gen that will be bumping its price up to $70 – something that might set the standard for other games as well.

• The Current-Gen Standard Edition of NBA 2K21 will cost £54.99 / $59.99.
• The Next-Gen Standard Edition of NBA 2K21 will cost £64.99 / $69.99.
• The Mamba Forever Edition of NBA 2K21 will cost £84.99 / $99.99.

4. Cover Stars

Damian Lillard, Zion Williamson, and Kobe Bryant will be the trio of cover stars for NBA 2K21.

• 2K has announced that Damian Lillard will be the cover star for current-generation platforms.
• For Next-Gen, up and coming star Zion Williamson will grace the cover.
• The Mamba Forever Edition goes to the legend that is Kobe Bryant.

5. PS5 State of Play

PS5 State of Play

NBA 2K21 had its first major reveal at the PS5 reveal event – and it's entirely possible we'll receive the next at the State of Play event!

The event is confirmed for 6 August, but will not focus on the PS5.

Instead, it promises to look at third-party games, which could include NBA 2K21.

6. No PS5 News

Sony headed off any potential disappointment by telling fans not to expect the release date, price, or pre-orders for the PS5 to be announced.

This event will focus on PS4 and PS VR games, but there will also be some check-ins on third-party games from June's PS5 showcase.

That could mean some gameplay or updates about a few key titles.

7. Next-Gen vs Current-Gen

With NBA 2K21 releasing for both current-gen and next-gen, what could we expect to see in terms of the difference between the two versions?

We may see loading times improved thanks to the power of Xbox Series X and PS5, and perhaps higher FPS and resolution.

However, due to the pandemic, it would be understandable if 2K were unable to create an 'optimized for next-gen' title, whereby they developed it to fully utilize all the power on offer.

This is by no means a bad thing, the game looks fantastic and is likely to play even better!

8. Will we see NBA 2K21 at the State of Play event?

The State of Play event would be the perfect fit for the next major update from NBA 2K21 – if not debuting some gameplay footage, perhaps premiering another exciting trailer.

We haven't gotten any teasers from 2K Games just yet, but we think something could be coming to surprise the audience and keep up the hype.

And with the NBA officially back in session, now would be a great time to capitalize on the moment.
