NBA 2K21 MyTeam Review: Is It Worth Playing?

The Collector mode MyTeam has become an increasingly bigger piece of the NBA 2K universe over the past five years. In NBA 2K21, MyTEAM is a brand new Mode that is deeper, more customizable, and more rewarding than ever. Here, let's start chatting about things in this early days NBA 2K21 MyTeam review.

Domination

Domination

Why would I play Domination?

In Domination, you play in various leagues, against many different teams and earn rewards by completely dominating the match. The advantage of this mode is that it's the best way to earn Tokens. The Tokens earned can help you gain higher tiers without the need to spend 2K21 MT or VC.

Another advantage of Domination is that, as you progress through the mode, the rewards get better. You'll be rewarded players, some of whom are worth their weight in gold, the type of card that a collector would want.

Triple Threat Offline/Online

1. New Vault and Cumulative Win prize each season.
2. Triple Threat has a win threshold, but you can grind for Vault prizes after you hit it.
3. The new TT board screen clearly shows the latest prizes.
4. The ball drops faster!

Limited And Unlimited

The limited Mode is new to NBA 2K. MyTeam Limited is a weekend league-type game mode that imposes new lineup restrictions each weekend to keep the mode fresh.

You get a prize in each game you win, but the main goal is acquiring "Championship Rings" that will earn you some prizes at the end of the aforementioned season (5-6 weeks).

Unlimited, the sweaty 5v5 mode, is reworked to feature a tier system that requires you to win a certain number of games to progress to the next tier. You also get some sort of prize for each tier.

This will keep players more engaged and make the process to get the grand prize a bit lengthier and tougher while adding some skill-based matchmaking.

Challenges

This is actually where we'll probably spend most of my time in 2K21, assuming they update them regularly and the rewards are okay.

The first challenge I did was the Damian Lillard Signature Challenge. The rewards are a HOF badge and diamond shoe.

The Weekly Challenges have been lackluster so far, as are the Moments Challenges. The difference, though, is that the Moments Challenges are at least on Pro difficulty, so I've used them to knock out XP tasks.

The Spotlight Challenges, however, could be great. It sounds like every Tuesday we'll get a new set of these, with a card and theme pack as the reward, plus XP for completing the games along the way.

Seasons

Seasons

Seasons is a new offline mode that allows you to play the game, level up, and earn rewards for completing goals and winning games.

Each season is about 6 weeks and the first season gives a reward of a PD Stephen Curry. This seems like a cool idea for offline-only players.

Earning XP will help players to work through the various levels during each Season, the more XP you earn, the better your rewards!

The Exchange

The Exchange is a brand-new feature in MyTeam that allows you to swap cards you no longer want for new cards. Trading has conditions attached to it, with requirements for how high a card must be rated to turn it in. It sounds like what you receive in return will be unknown to you when you press the button, but 2K Sports promises that some great (and exclusive) cards will be found in The Exchange.

Badge and Evolution Customization

2K is bringing back badge cards and allowing you to add them to players so that you can upgrade the special skills from Bronze to Hall of Fame. Also, it is taking the Evolution card concept to another level.

You'll now be able to customize the evolution path of eligible cards. For example, 2K users can now choose between a few different badges to equip EVO cards as they move up to their highest possible tier. This is designed to make some EVO cards unique.

The Auction House

Finally, It is the increased activity within the auction house. Every single day has something new to strategize around. Whether it's sniping a new player needed for an XP task, or hoarding cards from certain teams that are needed for the Exchange, there are more ways than ever to flip cards and earn NBA 2K21 MT.

Final Thoughts

So, despite the frustrations, I'm still hopeful for the mode this year. It is worth playing.
